Returning Catholics
Meets every Thursday at 7pm
Faith Formation Room
Welcome to Catholics Coming Home! We’re glad you’re here. We invite you to join in our process of reflection on your relationship with the church. It is not intended to pull you back into the church, but to invite you to consider that possibility. We begin with the assumption that God meets us wherever we are on our faith journeys. And we assume that the word “catholic” defines us as the setting for all who want to celebrate their Christianity within our faith community. We are eager to know what brought you here and will devote this first session to that discovery. Throughout the sessions, you are invited to share your thoughts and reflections as they relate to the group’s focus.
People are drawn to a reconsideration of the Catholic faith for many reasons. Some simply want to update their understanding of their faith, while others have very serious issues that may even be painful to discuss. Some have been wounded by their church experience, yet find the courage to reach out for new understanding of what it means to be Catholic. We try to respect all viewpoints and ask participants to do the same.
We do not have answers for all questions, nor can we undo hurt that has occurred. We can only offer the hope and information, along with acceptance and reassurance that may assist you in the journey back to the church—or the decision that you have a right to “go in peace.” Know that several members of our core team have participated in these sessions as “returning Catholics” and that we are supportive in your desire to reconsider the Catholic faith. However, we are also available to help facilitate a healing process for those whose issues deserve that. Also, we can provide individual meetings and resources that may be helpful. Know that our ministry is steeped in respect and confidentiality.
It is our endeavor to honor the group focus and to conduct our time together in a Christian manner. If you have particular issues with a particular individual, it is preferable that names not be mentioned in the group. If you choose to schedule a private meeting with a priest, deacon, or member of the core team, you are free to divulge this information at that time.
If, during the series or afterward, you feel a need for a private meeting, please see one of us and we will help you arrange that. It is our primary hope that this connection with the church, for whatever reason brings you here, will result in an increased awareness of God’s love for you.
