Centering Prayer
Centering Prayer is “a contemporary name given to an ancient practice of meditation that has always been a part of our Christian tradition. In Centering Prayer we seek to move beyond words, images and feelings to a place of interior silence. We seek to open our whole being to the simple awareness of God’s presence within us – to move beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Him” (Open Mind, Open Heart).
Centering Prayer is usually done in private for two 20 minute daily sessions. Group sessions are held every Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Faith Formation Room. We follow the method of prayer as outlined by Father Thomas Keating, a Cistercian monk, in his book “Open Mind, Open Heart” available in Saint Marks library. Everyone is welcome!
Quote: “To those on the spiritual journey, nothing happens that is not directed towards divine union, if we only say yes.” Thomas Keating
