Music Ministry
About St. Mark’s Music Ministry:
Good liturgy reflects who we are as a praying, worshiping community. Music helps to achieve this goal. At St. Mark’s, our music ministry is comprised of choirs, cantors and instrumentalists who enhance the liturgy by leading the assembly in sung prayer. Our purpose is bringing the good news to people through the musical word.
Our parish is fortunate to have many opportunities for individuals to use their gift of music through our music ministries. Various musicians join together to provide music at the 5:00 Saturday evening mass, while our Sunday masses include the traditional choir at 8:30 a.m., our contemporary ensemble at 11:00, and our teen group at 6:00 p.m. Our newest addition is our 25-voice children’s chorus Voices of Joy. All choirs truly bring a joyful sound unto the Lord!
Beyond leading the assembly in song during the Masses, our music ministers also support the needs of the church and community by providing songs and instrumentation on holy days and other special liturgies; Parish Life Events, retreats, cursillos, funerals, weddings, healing masses, ordinations, dedications, baptisms, and ecumenical services, to name a few. Of course, nothing is more important to our music ministry than the voices of those in the assembly joining together in song. Whether you sing in one of our choirs or join in from your seat in the assembly, you should remember that we are one body of Christ called to serve.
If you are interested in volunteering your musical talents or want to learn more about how you can support our music ministry, please contact our church music director, Katie Pape, at 377-8985.
