Baptisms

Children
“Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God.” -Mark 10:14

Children under the age of 6 can receive the sacrament when supported by their parents.  Baptism preparation for children provides necessary information and background on this Sacrament for those in our parish community who have children to be baptized.  The classes for parents are scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on the Tuesday before the third Sunday of the month.  Study material is included.  After attending the class, parents schedule the Baptism with the priest or deacon, and fill out the necessary paperwork.  Baptism Sunday is the third Sunday of each month.  For more information contact Deacon Mike Lowe at MikeLowe@BoiseInc.com
   Phone: 853-2571

Children in 2nd to 8th grade who are seeking to be baptized or did not receive first Holy Communion in the 2nd grade, are invited, with their parents, to receive sacramental preparation in our Family RCIA program. The children and their families will learn many of the basic beliefs of the Church and will prepare for the sacraments of Baptism (if not already baptized), Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

Adults

Adults who have never been baptized normally go through the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA).

 First Reconciliation and First Eucharist:

Preparation for reception of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a two year process beginning in the first grade. An announcement is made each fall regarding this preparation process. First reception of Reconciliation and Eucharist should be primarily a family celebration within the context of the Church community. In this way the child, through the family, takes on greater participation in the Church of which he is a member and thus continues to realize more deeply the unique call of one’s Baptism. It is the parent’s responsibility to catechize their children for the sacraments. Parents who enroll their child will be provided with resources that will enable them to do catechesis in the home. The catechist in the classroom will provide a formal preparation as is found in the student text.

Please contact Wendy Sleisher, Coordinator for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

Confirmation

FOR HIGH SCHOOL TEENAGERS  (9-12 gr.)

Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation of the Catholic Church. For most high school teens, Confirmation is a chance to take ownership of the decision their parents made for them early on at their Baptism. The teens affirm that they choose to be Catholic and that they believe in what the Church teaches. They commit themselves to being full and active members of our Catholic Church. They do not need to know everything that the Church teaches.  This is not a Sacrament that celebrates “graduation” or “adult maturity.” It is rather meant to be a special means of grace for those who need the strengthening of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to continue in their life-long faith journey with Christ and His Church.

The Confirmation Preparation Process starts with a required parent  and candidate ORIENTATION meeting in early October. The Confirmation process of preparation will run from October through May., Confirmation Preparation is part of the Total Youth Ministry Program at St. Mark’s.  Parents have the responsibility to see that their children are prepared to be confirmed. They must acknowledge that when the date for Confirmation comes around, the candidate must make the choice for him/herself to proceed with accepting the sacrament.

Please contact Wendy Sleisher, Coordinator for Confirmation.
